Bike Week

Last October I went took my first flight to Flordia to visit my bff. It happened to be Daytona Beach's Bike Week. It was a really great experience, wonderful weather and friendly people. So my best friend told me I am on the front page of the Daytona Times. I was suprised I must say.

I'm not sure why my face was looking like that...I think the bike cushions were uncomfortable but its still cute though. lol

I've been really into blue shadows lately and I got a chance to use my newest blue shadow from Modern Basics. I did some research and found some inspirations.

Rihanna's night look in the Who's that Chick" video

I love Rihanna's shadow in this pic but I am unsure about the lip color and the silver tones because the look is for night but I need a day to night look. Eve was rockin’ a day to night look I found a bit interesting.

Pixiwoo's channel on Youtube had a great Rihanna inspired look with gold tones. I want to bring in some gold tones to compliment my dark skin tone.

Bronner Brothers 65th Annual Hair Show

What an amazing weekend I had at the Bronner Brothers 65th Annual Hair Show in Atlanta. I drove 10 hours alone, well of course I had Tinka with me she was great company, while she slept the entire way (lol).

It was my first time in the "A" and hair show experience. Celebrities were walking around like nobodies, creative fantasy hair models, and make up madness. I was in heaven!!

Regrowing Natural-ness

After a long hiatus of weaves & wigs, May 30, 2011 marks the rebirth of Natural-ness. I decided to start this time with goals of locs... unlike last time. October 10, 2009 I started the 1st journey from relaxed to natural. I continued my natural-ness for 2 years, in the transition I wore weaves and things for protective styles.

Somewhere in the protective styles I was consumed with sew ins and quickweaves and neglect my hair. Round three with the BIG CHOP (excluding the time I shaved the side of my hair) THAT WAS CUTE!

I have done research on a fairly new technique called "loc extension". I really wanted them but I could not afford it. Average cost to install loc extension are anywhere from $200-$1500 depending on experience, location and time spent. I could have done them myself but I wouldn't have straight parts at all.

Big Chop #3

Hey guys, I've been away for a while and things are changing in my life. I have "big chopped" about 2 1/2 times since '08, so that's 3 1/2 times to date.

Year 2011 has been life changing I accomplished a few things on my list of "to do's". I started my daughters' locs, my boyfriend's locs and awaiting my very own loc journey.

My last big chop was an awful experience compared to my other bc's. I contemplated the cut for a while, brought a pic to the stylist at our consultation and then the BIG day comes and she has a different idea for my hair.

Me, being a hair stylist myself I can admitted I'm a bit picky. Well I wouldnt say picky but it is what it is. So, the stylist vision was to salvage and nurse my dead hair back to life, with a cut similar to Kelis.

I wanted to chop it all off with a cute lil girly cut. Like I had with my first BC that was done my a man at a barbershop.

I let her vision come to life and I turned out looking like a freaking poodle. I cried all the way home from the shop yelling and screaming. I finally get to my mom's and she even said it was horrible.

So I went back to the shop the same day and bc. I dont know if the lady was upset about the fact that i disliked her styling but she gave me the worst haircut ever.

I didnt understand why this woman has a chair in a salon. Her work was worst than a student on the first day of cosmetology school. Needless to say I hated the cut and I hated the poor customer service I had experience. I was done expressing to her what she could do to improve the cut but it was left unheard. I was near bald when I left.

Three weeks later I had enough growth to go to a barbershop to get my hair cut properly. At the end I was excited about the cut, it was just what I wanted. I rocked the low cut all summer.

My last cut was September 2011 and I began growing out my hair to loc.

Well hello everyone, since I have blogged for the new year yet I wanted to say Happy New Year. On to the topic at hand. A woman came to my desk today, very beautiful I might add but her eyebrows through me off. They were thinly waxed. Ladies I believe you eyebrows are the focal point of the face. On Oct 10, 2007 I did the Big Chop. It was rather spontaneous. I actually plan to cut it all off on Nov. 2, 07 (as I said in the 9/17 entry) but the damage was soo severe in my eyes and it made the transition harder than it was really was.

OMG....I am in love. Ok, so I was watching my fav show today and guess who was the guest judge Tyson Beckford. Anyway, bottom 2 were Ambreal and whateva the other girl name was. I liked her but I guess she was homesick so she told Tyra she wanted to quit and Ambreal who was suppose to get the boot got a second chance. Boy, she was praying... God will give you a second chance.
Ummm...Thank ya Jah!! She was better b4 when she had her natural hair. I know if some relaxed my nappalicious tresses I wouldn't be too happy. I hope she does better next week.

Back to hair... Now as you know I wear my hair in it's natural state. So I've been trying different homemade recipes in my hair. After days and weeks of experiments and research I found a few recipes that works and has almost immediate results.

Shampoo recipe In a blender, combine 1 ounce olive oil, 1 egg, 1 tablespoon lemon juice, and 1/2 teaspoon apple cider vinegar. Use as regular shampoo.

Conditioner recipe The ingredients for the recipe was:
1 tsp of baby oil which I substituted with evoo (extra virgin olive oil)
1 egg yolk
1 cup of water
Directions: Beat the egg until its frothy.
Add the oil.
Then beat again.
Add water.
Massage throughout hair and scalp.
Rinse well.

Ok...another recipe is the homemade mayonnaise conditioner. I love it!!! My hair is sooo much softer. If you have any other recipes for me to try like something for hair growth let me know.

So today I have been learning how to crochet. I have the basics down now I am actually trying to follow a pattern which they said was easy. Anyway I found this cool book, which has patterns to make really hot hats and accessories. If you don't want make them, then you can always buy her products.

Hey everyone so from along debate I have decided to recontruct this blog. Since I have not gotten any feed back. Salon Vixen will be dedicate to all natural: hair and products. I am will also include braids and weaves and things of that nature.

I began my natural journey on Oct 10, 2007. I went to the shop and told the barber what I wanted and what my hair goals were (which was 100% natural). I am totally happy with the results my big chop. I am learning so much from this experience.

Where have you been??

Hey ya'll I know I have been MIA for the last week or so. I have been extra busy with research about natural and transitional hair. I found out a few things. Especially on YouTube, there are several vlogger there documenting their journies and sharing thier hair products. One youtuber that I found inspirational to myself and a few others, goes by the name of nahjahface. She has written a book recently entitled "Mixed Up" . The book has recipes for chemical free hair. Nahjahface also is on blogtalkradio Sunday @ 9pm talks about black natural hair and black issues. So that's what I've been up to.

I've always wonder how celebs get that flawless hair. Is it weave or natural?? How can I get that hair?? Well the I found out. It’s a wig. I remember when ol’ School wigs were worn in the same style as when you purchased off the shelf. That’s a thing of the past. Now you can have that undetectable versatile weave like Beyonce , Tyra or Ciara. Lace wigs are custom made to fit the head perfectly and baby hair is added(optionally) around the edges to give you that natural look. They are a bit expensive($299 & up) and depending on where you live it's almost impossible to get one made. Thank God for the internet. You can order them online ready or custom made. I love them. Gotta get one or a few. So I can switch up the style easily. Keeping guessing..

"There is no greater beauty than the real you." I'm not sure who wrote that quote but I love it. So when I read it I finally decided to transition from relaxed hair to natural. I've have always wanted and loved natural styles, but never had the motivation to go through with. The quote just inspired me that my natural hair is beautiful too. About 6 months ago I started the long frustrating process, using microbraids with a month of new growth. The braids defintely worked cause I was not trying to go with the caesar cut. Almost 2 months ago I had all the perm cut off "The Big Chop", is what they call it, leaving me with 3 1/2 inches of hair. Now with about 5 1/2 inches (damn my hair grows slow), I am even more motivated. With influences such as Jill Scott, India Arie,and Erykah Badu. I am loving it. I can't wait for the afro like Jill... lol. Listen to a song of inspiration. Love your hair Jill and the earring. More of Jill later.

Tyra Banks Show premiered last Monday. And I missed it, the whole week. Her show as you know has move to the Big Apple. I've seen recaps of the show and I think season 3 is the best yet.

What has NY done?!?!? Or is it NY?? It is said that T is dating John Utendahl. An investment banker @ Wall Street’s Utendahl Capital Partners. Whateva it is I love it. Ok Tyra new do is hot, the color and the bangs are sooo much better.

In related news, I'll be in front of the TV on Wed 9/19 for the season premiere of ANTM cycle 9!!

Alek Wek is our Model Pick Of the Week. Seems like everyone has their own rags to riches story, Wek’s tells all in her biography “Alek: From Sudanese refugee to International Supermodel”.

Fleeing to London because of civil war in Sudan, Wek attended school for art & design. Approached while at the market she was asked if she wanted to be a model and soon after she was featured on the cover of Elle in Nov. ‘97.

Today the 30 year old lives in NY and has started a non-profit organization (W.E.K.--Working to Educate Kids). Let’s not forget Wek’s fab purse collection that I absolutely love “Alek Wek 1933”
